Process for GSU Faculty to Submit a Protocol for Review by Joint CABI IRB
All protocols must be submitted via Georgia Tech’s IRBWISE system. Researchers from Georgia State University (GSU) will need to establish a Georgia Tech IRBWISE user account. This account is in addition to a GSU IRBWISE account.
Georgia State personnel may request an account from Shelia White, Director of Human Research Protection Program at GSU.
Include the following in your request:
- Your full name
- Email address
- Telephone number
- Departmental affiliation
- CITI Certification
- CV (if you are a Principal Investigator)
After the request has been approved, Georgia Tech’s Office of Research Integrity will send you an email containing your new Georgia Tech IRBWISE account information.
Submitting Your Request with IRBWISE
Within IRBWISE, select "Submit New Protocol" from the drop-down menu of the "Tasks" box in the upper right corner to begin a new protocol application. Within the application, some sections are required and must be completed in order to submit your protocol to the IRBWISE system.
Be sure to upload all necessary documents. These include study protocol, dissertation, consent forms, any advertisements, all survey instruments, interview questions, etc. If the proposed research will be funded, you will also need to upload your grant proposal, including the project description. Regarding consent forms, there are specific required forms and templates (for example, parental permission and minor assent).
Principal Investigators (PIs) and Co-PIs must be members of the GT/GSU faculty. Students may not be PIs on protocols and should instead be named co-investigators. Co-PIs must also be GT/GSU faculty.
Final Steps and Deadlines
When you have completed all applicable sections of the application and are ready to submit, if you are the PI select the “Forward for Signatures” option in IRBWISE to forward the application to your appropriate Department Chair, Dean, or Director for sign-off and final submission to the IRB. He/she will then use IRBWISE to submit the protocol to the CABI IRB for review. (If you are not the PI, forward the protocol to the PI for submission to the appropriate reviewer.) Georgia Tech IRBWISE accounts have been established for GSU faculty with departmental sign-off privileges.
The CABI IRB generally meets on the third Monday of each month. Protocol submissions must be received by the first day of the month to be added to that month’s meeting agenda. However, in order to be added to that month’s agenda, the application MUST BE COMPLETE AND READY for review. Incomplete submissions, even if submitted by the 1st of the month, may not be added to the agenda.
